US Multi-Family Office Expands New York Team

Former Bessemer Trust man Jay Goetschius has joined Abbot Downing, Wells Fargo's ultra high net worth business, in New York.

Goetschius, who has been appointed as a managing director, has 25 years of experience advising private clients on wealth management issues including investment policy development, portfolio construction and asset allocation, risk management, and tax and estate planning.

Before starting at Bessemer Trust - where he was based in Florida - he was a co-founding partner and head of client relationship management at HPM Partners, having also spent 13 years at BNY Mellon Wealth Management as managing director and head of business development for New York City.

Additionally, he has held senior roles within Bank of New York’s charitable gift services and private banking divisions, while serving on the trust investment committee as a regional fiduciary officer. His began his wealth management career as a lending officer at Chase Personal Financial Services.

In his new role at Abbot Downing, Goetschius will work with a team that provides planning, family dynamics and education services, asset management, private banking, trust, fiduciary and administrative services.

In other news at Abbot Downing, in May the firm took on Nancy Amick as a leadership coach to focus on succession planning and the development of next-generation family business leaders. The firm said it has logged a 40 per cent rise in requests over the past year related to helping prepare next-generation leaders for roles in family businesses, and to prepare heirs for the responsibilities of wealth.
